KYBELLA®
KYBELLA is an FDA-approved, non-surgical injection used to reduce moderate to severe fat on the upper neck, otherwise known as a “double chin.” The injection contains a naturally occurring molecule that dissolves fat, leaving all other cells healthy and intact
KYBELLA therapy is non-invasive, resulting in minimal downtime or recovery required by the patient. Depending on each patient specific characteristics and goals, and the severity of submental fullness (“double chin”), multiple treatments may be necessary.
Patients experiencing KYBELLA therapy report feeling happier and younger based on their appearance, as well as less embarrassed and less self-conscious.
How KYBELLA® Works
The active ingredient in KYBELLA is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.

As a Pure Medspa patient, you'll have a dedicated Patient Care Coordinator (PCC) to guide your beauty and wellness experience. Enjoy seamless, top-tier service and expert, personalized attention that redefines excellence and caters to your every need.
What To Expect During Treatment
Before starting treatment, your healthcare specialist will examine the area under and around your chin to determine if KYBELLA is right for you. Then, your specialist will tailor your treatment to the amount of fat under the chin and your aesthetic goals.
How Is KYBELLA Administered?
Treatment can only be administered by a KYBELLA-trained healthcare specialist. At each treatment, you will receive multiple small injections under your chin, and the injection process takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The exact number of injections will depend on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired profile.

How Many KYBELLA Treatment Sessions Will I Need?
Since everyone’s chin profile is different, the number of treatments varies from patient to patient. Your healthcare specialist will help determine how many treatment sessions you need based on the amount and distribution of your submental fat and your personal treatment goals. Each KYBELLA treatment session is given at least 1 month apart, and you should not receive more than 6 treatments. In clinical studies, 59% of patients received 6 treatments.
What Are the Possible Side Effects of KYBELLA?
KYBELLA can cause serious side effects, including nerve injury in the jaw that can temporarily cause an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness (experienced by 4 out of 100 people in clinical studies) and trouble swallowing (experienced by 2 out of 100 people in clinical studies). In clinical studies, nerve injury in the jaw resolved on its own in a median of 44 days (range of 1 to 298 days), and trouble swallowing resolved on its own in a median of 3 days (range of 1 to 81 days). The most common side effects occur in the treatment area and include:
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Pain
- Numbness
- Redness
- Areas of hardness
Side effects are usually temporary and often resolve on their own.
KYBELLA Frequently Asked Questions
What is submental fullness?
Submental fullness is a gathering of excess fat beneath the chin, commonly known as “double chin.” It can be something you’ve had your whole life due to genetics, or starts to appear as you get older or if you gain weight.
What is KYBELLA?
KYBELLA is a prescription medicine and the only FDA-approved injectable treatment for adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.”
It is not known if KYBELLA is safe and effective for use outside of the submental area or in children less than 18 years of age.

How long will it last?
When injected into fat under the chin, KYBELLA causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After reaching your desired aesthetic, further treatment is not expected.
How many people have been treated with KYBELLA?
KYBELLA has been the focus of a global clinical development program involving over 20 clinical studies. More than 1600 people were treated with KYBELLA in these studies.
Is KYBELLA right for me?
Only you and your doctor can decide if KYBELLA is right for you. If you’re bothered by fullness under your chin and wish to avoid surgery, ask your doctor about KYBELLA. It is not known if KYBELLA is safe and effective for use outside of the submental area or in children less than 18 years of age.
